Mesothelioma occurs because of asbestos exposure for a long period of time. The medical researchers have identified the four types of this disease; pleural mesothelioma, peritoneal mesothelioma, pericardial mesothelioma and testicular mesothelioma. Each above mentioned mesothelioma types has different ancestries. Typically, mesothelioma develops in mesothelial cells that form the membranous linings around the organs.

Mesothelial tissues are consisting of two layers. One is called parietal and second is known as visceral layer.
